Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Educate horses to carry loads

  1. Teach horse to be led alongside a horse being ridden and on foot
  2. Introduce the horse to a pack saddle and fit correctly
  3. Introduce and familiarise the horse to loads and low hanging equipment
  4. Habituate the horse to be in close proximity to other horses in front and to the rear
  5. Lead the horse, ensuring a safe position and distance, past objects to accustom to loads
  6. Introduce heavier loads containing different objects, ensuring loads are balanced and secured, appropriate for the size of the horse

Consolidate education of pack horses

  1. Train the pack horse to follow the lead horse
  2. Repeat exercises in a range of environments to develop horse confidence negotiating different surfaces and obstacles
  3. Teach the horse to be restrained utilising remote area options
  4. Recognise and respond appropriately to signs of stress and fatigue in horses undergoing education
